Is The Chrysler Voyager the Same as The Dodge Caravan?

 ·  July 4, 2022

The Chrysler Voyager and the Dodge Caravan are the best vehicles in the semi-van segment. You will find differences between the two, and gaining knowledge about them will enable you to make an informed choice. The Voyager and the Caravan are two of the most recognised names in the minivan category. The minivans are one of the most versatile and practical family vehicles, making them a popular choice in Australia.

The Chrysler Voyager and the Dodge Caravan are nearly the exact sizes. The Caravan is heavier due to its drivetrain and battery pack. Even though the vehicles look simple, they are one of the most stylish minivans on the road in Australia.

Let's look at what makes these two unique vehicles so different and how choosing one of them is easy.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Irrespective of the trim level of the Dodge Caravan, the powertrain option is a 283hp V-6 engine and a six-speed automatic transmission. The Caravan has the slowest 0 – 60 mph time in the minivans category.

The Chrysler Voyager has a 287hp V-6 engine and a nine-speed automatic transmission. The minivan goes from 0 – 60 mph time in 7.3 seconds. It can haul 3,600 lbs., which is impressive compared to the competition in its category. The maximum towing capacity of the Caravan is also 3,600 lbs.

Fuel Economy

The Caravan's fuel economy statistics on the highway is 22 mpg, and in the city, it is 25 mpg. The Voyager is 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway road.

Interiors, Comfort, and Cargo

The rear seats of the Caravan can get folded, and this creates ample space for your cargo. The stow-and-go system of this minivan enables you to fold the third-row seats.

The second-row seats can also get tucked into underfloor bins when not in use, which will help you carry large cargo easily. The load floor is flat, making it easy to carry bulky cargo. You don't need to remove or adjust the seats to haul any cargo you want.

The Voyager provides the same stow-and-go system as the Caravan, making the minivans versatile. When the third row of the Voyager gets folded, you get access to 32 cubic feet of cargo space.

The new minivan owner expects a lot from the interiors, and even though both Voyager and Caravan deliver on some aspects, you will find that it is primarily a letdown.

The seating space is where the Voyager scores better than the Caravan. It has a seating capacity of seven. The two front seats are bucket seats for the driver and the front passenger. You also have two second-row seats. The third row is a three-seater.

The Caravan provides adequate head and legroom space for all occupants of the minivan. The front seat gets cushioned, and this provides comfort to the driver. You can adjust the front seats. The second and third-row seats aren't as comfortable as the front-row seats. You can fold the second and third-row seats for more cargo space.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The standard infotainment system of the Dodge Caravan comes with a 6.5-inch screen. Most infotainment systems are optional, and you don't find Apple CarPlay or Android Auto in any of the trims available. The Chrysler has a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also has a 3.5-inch digital display in the gauge. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto get integrated as part of the infotainment system.

The audio system includes six speakers and a noise cancellation feature. Integrated voice control and Bluetooth streaming get included in the dash navigation. The infotainment features such as Sirius XM and 10.1-inch infotainment features are optional.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Safety is crucial for minivan drivers. The Caravan has not much to offer when it comes to safety and driver assistance features. The critical safety features of this vehicle include stability control and standard traction and the standard seven airbags.

The Voyager also doesn't have any driver assistance features that it can boast of. The many safety features include rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, rear automated emergency braking, rear parking sensors, and automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection.

Trim Levels

The Dodge Caravan has four trim levels: SE Plus, SE, SXT, and GT. The features of the seven-seater Caravan include a heated steering wheel with navigation, a power liftgate, power sliding side doors, heated front seats, leather seats, second-row stow and go bucket seats, and a 6.5-inch touchscreen multimedia system.

The Chrysler Voyager has three trim levels: L, LX, and LXI. The features include heated front seats, a steering wheel, a rear-seat entertainment system, and a tri-zone manual air conditioning system.

Exteriors

There's not much to write about the exterior features of the Voyager except the standard 17-inch alloy wheels and automatic quad halogen reflector headlights. The minivan is available in different colours: the Silver Mist, Bright White Clear Coat, Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl Coat, and Velvet Red Pearl Coat.

The Grand Caravan exterior looks bulky with a forward sloping hood. The sliding doors of all trims get found on both sides of the minivan. There are 17-inch alloy wheels which might vary in style depending on the trim level you choose. The SXT and SE Plus trim levels have a gloss black grille and front fog lights. The exterior colour options of the Caravan include the White Knuckle, Octane Red Pearl, Indigo Blue, Billet, Granite Pearl, and Black Onyx Crystal. The running boards can also get colour coordinated with the exteriors.
